David's Bicycling BlogCould this be paradise? Almost - it's London.
Leaders in London, England, have announced an ambitious plan to make their city one of the most cycle-friendly places in the world. Keying this plan is a series of bikeways that are part of an overall initiative to stimulate a 400% increase in the number of Brits on bikes in the city by 2025. These bike superhighways will link popular residential areas such as Hackney, Clapham and Kilburn to the city center and will have continuous, wide cycle lanes, dedicated intersections and clear signage. Other components of the plan to increase ridership include development of a network of connecting paths throughout London suburbs and a bike borrowing program modelled after Paris' highly-successful Velib program that has 10,000 bikes available at stations around the city.
