What was the situation
I started riding about ten years ago on unofficial mountain bike trails close to home. I think my boyfriend convinced me one day to go biking instead of hiking...and the rest is history!
What did you experience
In the beginning, I loved exploring the woods in a whole new way. It was fun to splash through creek crossings instead of hopping from rock to rock on foot. As I started riding more and more, I felt good about myself when I could clear a new log or ride a technical section I couldn't before.
Lessons Learned
- 1. Don't get upset if you can't clear/jump/ride something. You will be able to with practice
- 2. Try not to take advice from your boyfriend too critically. he is only trying to "help." ;)
- 3. If you can't imagine NOT riding, invest in a bike that you love. Your riding and your experiences will improve dramatically.
Most Positive Effect You Experienced
MTBing can transform any negative mood I'm in prior to riding
Advice for Others in the Same Position As You Were
Try mountain biking the next time you want to go for a hike in the woods!
Anything You'd Do Differently?
Perhaps I would have invested in a nicer bike earlier on.
