Up until 2012, Lance Armstrong was the most successful cyclist of all time. He had won the Tour de France an unparalled seven times, as well as being crowned World Champion, U.S. Champion and a two-time Olympian. And all this after being diagnosed with late-stage cancer at age 26. But then the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a mountain of evidence against Armstong, which documented his participation and direction in the most sophisticated doping effort that professional cycling has ever scene. He was accused of witness intiminidation and of pressuring others to participate in doping. He was stripped of his Tour de France victories and many other wins for a good portion of his career, and banned from further competition. Despite this dizzying downfall, Armstrong remains a hero to many for his efforts in support of cancer research nad advocacy through his Livestrong Foundation. Regardless of what you think of him --hero, cheater, champion, bully or some combination of all of them -- Armstrong is one of the most significant personalities in professional sports in our lifetimes.
