Review: Ciao Women's Cycling Jersey by Dakine

The Bottom Line

This is a solid jersey: well-constructed, durable with a tailored fit. A bit heavier material than your typical jersey but the sleeveless design will keep you cool. Looks great with tasteful, understated pattern.

Available through retail outlets; no on-line sales, nothing direct from manufacturer. Use Dakine's retail outlet locator to find a store near you.

Guide Review - Review: Ciao Women's Cycling Jersey by Dakine

With the Ciao women's sleeveless cycling jersey, Dakine has put together a comfortable and solid addition for your biking wardrobe. Though the material (136gm/M2 polyester) is just a bit heavier that your typical summerweight jersey, it's a nice feeling: well-constructed and durable. It's certainly not flimsy like you find in some lower-end warm-weather cycling wear, and you won't lose anything with its breathability and moisture-wicking properties.

Dakine has gotten away from traditional cycling design a bit with the Ciao jersey. Though they've retained the slightly longer length in back to keep the jersey from riding up when you're on the bike, the Ciao jersey doesn't have the three rear pockets that you typically see. But that's something that makes this Ciao jersey suitable for use in multiple activities. You could wear it for aerobics or running or anything else, and it's not instantly labeled as a bike jersey.

The jersey offers a trim and sleek fit that feels tailored vs. baggy and loose, plus a definite sharp look with its sublimated cheetah-print pattern. Dakine has also taken pains to put in a couple of extras. An anti-microbial finish on the material, for instance, helps beat down the stink that can accumulate in synthetics after repeating wearing (see related article: How to Take Care of Your Bike Clothes). Also, Dakine has included an ingenious feature to help keep your glasses clear, a special chamois wiper built into one of the inner side seams, hidden but handy, though it is vulnerable to getting soaked by sweat too on particularly warm days.
