New Single-Speed Set-up

From David Fiedler, About.com

The 16-tooth sprocket on the back is a BMX-style freewheel sprocket. I screwed the sprocket directly onto the hub of the current wheel. More comments below.

There are a couple of reasons why a person might want to ride a single-speed or fixed gear bike. They are a lot simpler, with no gears, shifters or derailleurs to worry about. They do much better in bad weather because all you have to be concerned about is keeping the chain clean. Plus, the bike is lighter without the extra parts. Finally, riding a single speed or fixie really develops your pedaling ability when you've got no gears to rely on.
