Canari Canyon Bike Shorts For Comfortable Riding

Though purists may insist that form fitting black tights are the only option for cycling, there are plenty of other riders who like baggy bike shorts for reasons of modesty and comfort. It was for this group that Canari produced its Canyon mid-range version of the baggy bike shorts with features that emphasize comfortable cycling.

Quality Materials; Quality Construction

A durable nylon rip-resistant shell coupled with a elastic waistband and stretchy polyester liner make these shorts comfortable inside and out. And Canari has done a good job with the amount and density of their gel padding. Sometimes manufacturers can get carried away and make you feel like you're trying to balance atop a throw pillow when riding. However, these shorts feature gel padding that provides nice cushioning without feeling bulky.

The polyester liner on the Canari Canyon is well designed and allows for decent wicking and ventilation. Softouch leg grippers held the inner liner just fine and didn't allow it to bunch, bind or ride up on me while out on the bike. The material also stretches to accommodate a range of motion, offering a very comfortable fit.

Needs Improvement In . . .

You'll want to pay attention to the 9-inch inseam, which to me felt a bit short. They are still baggy, but not long and baggy a la NBA style hitting around your knees. It wasn't until I put them on that I realized that they fall about mid-thigh on me, and when riding, sometimes rose to the bottom of the inner-liner as I pedaled. Granted, I'm over six-feet, but still something to watch.

My only dissatisfaction with these shorts was that the pockets could have gone deeper. There are two hand pockets shallow enough that you'll fear losing stuff as you ride. A third small pocket on the thigh has a velcro close, but it's probably too small to hold anything more substantial than a money clip.

In Summary

All in all, these are decent shorts, comfortable and durable. As long as you are able to stick your accessories somewhere else like a seat pack, you'll be in fine shape with these Canari Canyon Gel baggies. But if your shorts are your main option for carrying your phone, keys, wallet, comb, etc., you may be better served with another pair featuring a couple of larger cargo pockets that zip shut to hold your stuff secure.
