I've seen folding bikes. I've seen tandem bikes. but I had never seen a folding tandem bike until last weekend.
I was out in the park watching lots of cyclists buzzing by on a beautiful spring day, then off in the distance I saw it coming. It was a tandem, sure, with a man and woman riding, but the distinctively small wheels used on most folding bikes is what first caught my eye. And as it approached, I saw the other distinctive parts of a folding bike, the smaller, hinged frame and taller handlebars that fold down and in.
Ha, what an awesome concept I thought. Not only are folding bikes a great way to take a bike along when you travel, but to be able to do it with a tandem makes it that much better for couples or families with kids.
Bike Friday is one of the most popular brands of folding bikes. I'm not sure if this is the specific brand I saw those people riding, but you can check out their webpage on folding tandems here and check out a closer look at these beautiful bikes. One tandem folding bike can break down and be transported in two suitcases.
