For cyclists who are worried about falling over when using bike shoes, have you ever considered something like the Power Grips Pedal Straps? These are an alternative for people who like the benefits that bike shoes offer, but without actually being locked into the pedals.

I used Power Grips for a number of years for both me and my son who at the time we started using them was only 10 and they were great.
We do almost entirely road cycling and I wanted him to get the benefit and feel of being clipped into the pedals but I didn’t want to be buying new shoes at $60-$100 a pop every 6 months as he grew. Additionally he and I got the feel of twisting our feet to get out out of them so it made the transition to clip-less pedals a couple years ago easier. Unfortunately he is still growing and I need to get him his 3rd pair of cycling shoes but at least I saved hundreds over the first few years.
They are easy to use, easy to get in and out of and are durable – today I still have them on a bike that my daughter rides. She likes them because I think it makes her feel “official” while still allowing her to wear her regular shoes.
I’ve been using them on three bikes for the past two years and love them. They are great for touring too (no need to pack bike specific shoes). I’ll never go back to SPD or Look clipless systems. Power Grips are less expensive, more durable (less parts to fail) and I feel more connected to my bike.
Nice review, Jack
