I don't know about you but the turning of the year makes me start thinking about larger rides that I'd like to accomplish in the next 12 months. This fall I'm considering a ride from Chicago to St. Louis, using a route already mapped by the League of Illinois Bicyclists that follows Historic Route 66, a distance of around 400 miles.
I may take Nick Lubecki's approach to bike touring, which includes foraging for discarded pizza. Or I may just pursue a more mainstream approach to bicyclist cuisine. Like restaurants and food purchased at grocery stores.

Yes I am planning to ride the MS 200 in New Bern NC, then will look toward a longer ride…
Trying to find a friend with whom to do the STP (Seattle-to-Portland) ride in July. It’s fully supported, though, so it’s not a risky ride — but it ought to be a fun (and beautiful) one!
In Sept. 2012 we pedaled 600 miles on our beloved recumbent tandem bicycle leaving Vermont & turning around once in Rangeley, Maine… Dean & I usually do these trips twice a year! We are both now closer to age 60 than 50 & there is NOTHING else we enjoy more…
God willing we will do another couple during 2013 – hope you can too!
I’m planning to cycle up to my mum’s house over a weekend, about 130 miles through a couple of Scottish Ski centres (Glenshee and the Letch), crossing the Cairngorms, ending up close to the Cairngorm ski centre.
It may not be a big trip in some folk’s eyes, but the first biggie for me, and I’m really looking forward to it. Got a lovely Specialised Secteur which feels like I can sit on it all day.
No training at the mo tho, too much snow and ice on the roads….
Any advice for a newbie?
