My Cat is Fixated on My Bike

Cat on a bike tirePreviously pet-free, we got a cat about a week ago.  So far, it's been great.  The kids love her and she's not been any problem at all. Even my wife--the one who was really hesitant about the whole idea--I think has been won over.

It's been lots of fun watching the cat play and pounce and run around our house. But the most interesting behavior to me so far is the cat's fascination with my bike. When it is parked inside, she bats at the pedals and is constantly sticking her head and paws in and around and through the spokes. She'll scratch at the sidewalls of the front and rear tires just like they are scratching posts -- so thank goodness she's declawed.

Funniest of all is when she leaps on top of the tires and tries to perch there like a squirrel on a power line.  Of course, the bike usually starts to roll or shift and she'll jump right back off. It's endlessly entertaining for all of us. I love my bike, of course, so it makes me so happy that the cat apparently loves it too.

Do you ever have this happen?  Any pets you have that just can't leave your bike alone? Comment below.

My cats always seem intrigued by the pedals on my bike. They sniff at them all the time. Beyond that, they seem to have no interest. Maybe that’s because we keep a scratching post nearby and they seem to have figured out the difference between a bike and a scratching post.

You should post more photos of your cat’s adventures. They’d be fun to see. Or better yet, make a little video. Cats are fascinating creatures.

I had a fire hydrant once that dogs were attracted to. :>) Oh yeah, a sand box that the cat seemed was just crazy about.
