So I did the tourist thing with my family last week and headed out to southern California for spring break. We went to LA and San Diego, and part of our trip included a stop in Hollywood. (Article: How to Spend One Day in Hollywood). Walking down Hollywood Boulevard was interesting and fun, but wow, what a collection of people. One of our stops was what I considered to be the ultimate tourist trap, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. I was skeptical, but it turned out to be a whole lot of fun. Plus, you'll never guess who I met there - Lance Armstrong! That's right. And Barack Obama, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Alfred Hitchcock, Kobe Bryant and a whole bunch more athletes and celebrities.
Lance is mounted on his bike (full size photo here) and in the classic U.S. Postal Service jersey worn during so many of his Tour de France victories. And though many of the wax figures were so bizarrely lifelike that you almost wondered when they'd start talking to you, Lance's own wax recreation seemed to me to be a little off. I haven't actually met him in person, but I didn't think his hair color was accurate. It looked almost reddish, which I've never thought was his color. Plus the tires on his Trek were flat. But it was another fun piece in a very fun day, and though I didn't think I'd ever find myself saying this, yes, I'd probably recommend a stop at Madame Tussaud's to you too.
