With Christmas and the New Year's holidays being celebrated in many parts of the world, many of our normal routines go right out the window with some time off from work and perhaps travel to see family. So I've got a question for you: is this a good time for you to get some miles on the bike - maybe even more that normal?
Seems like the answers could be all over the place. Though there is often time available with many people having extended vacation, perhaps there are challenges too. Often cold or snowy weather can be a factor that would ordinarily keep you off the bike. But you can beat that with these tips on cool weather riding.
Limited light can cause problems too. In the northern hemisphere, these are the shortest days of the year. But if riding into the twilight hours or even full darkness at night time is a challenge, smart cyclists will make good use of strategically-placed lights and reflectors to help make themselves more visible to others .
If you're traveling to see people, consider taking your bike along or finding another way to ride while you're away.
All-in-all, it seems like the holidays can be a wonderful opportunity to get some extra time on the bike. Perhaps you might even consider trying out a dry run on that route to work if you've been thinking about bike commuting. It's a chance to see for real how long it will take.

Try to – remember riding last Christmas as it was mild here in NJ. Thinking if the weather cooperates……
Definitely going to get some riding in during the days off. My normal ride time is before sunrise, so daylight rides are always a treat.
Already have over 100 miles since the 24th of Dec. 2011.
Gotta love San Diego weather:)
Putting spikes on tomorrow since the snow has arrived. Will ride every day that I can kick a bike through the white stuff.
Living in so Cal. Is great! Even it’s been a little on the cool side lately I’ve manage to put some miles. Happy Holydays everyone!!!
