Cranksgiving rides are happening this month, and chances are there is one near you. What is Cranksgiving? Originally started by bike messengers in NYC, Cranksgiving is a combination bike ride/food drive, with all proceeds--whether in food collected or money raised--generally going to local food pantries.
Though the format varies from place to place, generally it involves cyclists following a route that goes past a couple grocery stores. There, they purchase food items that can be used to help others in need. Sometimes there is an alley-cat race as part of it. Regardless of how it comes together, it's always an awesome time and a great way for the cycling community to give back to others.
