NYC Cop Stripped of Badge for Body Slamming Cyclist

Wednesday July 30, 2008

A rookie NYC cop has been reassigned to desk duty after knocking a Critical Mass cyclist off his bike during a ride through Times Square Friday night with a hit that would make an NFL linebacker proud.

And get this: it was the cyclist was charged with attempted assault, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

Tension has been high between the cops and Critical Massers ever since the 2004 Republican National Convention. Unfortunately this just seems to be another black mark against the Gotham City cops in their treatment of cyclists.

Aaaaah - video is great, isn’t it?

You think the police would have learned a lesson after Rodney King about how to behave in public.

Now that many new cell phones have quality video recording options this phenomena will only increase.

It is a real shame that this type of surveillance of the police is needed to get them to behave.

The MSNBC RSS feed of the New York Times article claims that the police report says that the cyclist ran into the cop.
In the play “Chicago” one of the imprisoned women protests, “I didn’t stab my husband. He ran into my knife…he ran into my knife NINE TIMES.”
Does the cop say, “The cyclist was going so fast that his slipstream sucked my right into him. I didn’t body slam him. I fell on him…I fell on him at great speed like a linebacker.”?

That officer should be immediately sent to the Tombs !! He needs to watch Law and Order, LOL !!!
Seriously though, if that guy passed the psychological tests, they need a different test. I’d send him on a foot patrol in Brownsville, and he’d need a funeral within minutes.
