Sounded Like a Good Idea . . .

Saturday June 21, 2008

The British alternative rock band Radiohead had a terrific idea to promote cycling, but the results unfortunately failed to live up to their expectations. At a recent gig in Paris, the band announced that it was setting aside 50 free tickets, first come first served at the Paris office of their record label. The only catch was that fans wanting the free tickets had to come by bike. Sounds great, huh? But by showtime, only 15 of the 50 tickets had been claimed.

No word on why more tickets weren't claimed. Frankly, it's a mystery to me. Could be that the office was in a terrible location to cycle to. Or maybe French people don't like Radiohead. But regardless, I admire the band's position and as they say, it's the thought behind this promotion that counts.

I’m a 70 year old life long biker and have no idea who Radiohead is, but I think it was a great idea. How about Wayne Newton, or a Branson, MO concert next.
