Blumenauer Promotes Bike-Friendly Legislation
"Bicyclists are an indicator species of a livable community, a place where our families are safe, healthy and economically secure. It’s time for the Federal Government to step up and do its part."
From comments made by Rep. Earl Blumenauer (Democrat, Oregon) to Congress in support of enacting federal bicycle-friendly legislation during the U. S. National Bike Summit in Washington D.C., during March 4-6, 2008.

Do I think the government could do more to encourage cycling?
Yes, I do.
Do I think Mr. Blumenauer could do more to respond to, and thus encourage, BikeBloggers?
Yes, I do.
I’ve been at the forefront of our Niche since January 2003, being probably the earliest to blog about the Caucus, and its British counterpart.
In 2005, in the aftermath of Katrina, I sent a letter to everyone in my sidebar, including him, that was pretty much ignored. ;-D
Mr. B, though, sent a Form Letter response not related to my letter, AND a interesting letter came from his webmaster, that was more enlightening, in which word was sent, supposedly by Mr. B, thanking me for my efforts, and explaining “that unfortunately House ethics rules prohibit us from linking to blogs from our Congressional website (versus a campaign/political website).” (Here.
I wrote a follow-up, of course, and am still waiting for a response. ;-D
I’ve not written much about the Caucus since.
I still get e-mail from Mr. B’s office from time to time, but none of it is cycling related. ;-D
Thank you for the link to his recent remarks!
I will soon blog about them, and once again recommend folks come over here for a look see. ;-D
