He Made It: Round-the-World Cyclist Finishes in Paris
Mark Beaumont, the cyclist who attempted to set a new solo round-the-world record we've followed here has finished his ride. Pedaling back to Paris' Arc de Triomphe on Friday, February 15, Beaumont completed his circling of the globe by bicycle some 194 days and 17 hours after leaving there on August 5th, 2007.
Beaumont's total distance cycled was 18,297 miles through 20 countries, and the data is now being certified by officials to confirm a new world record.
When asked for his first comment on finishing this momentous feat, Beaumont said, "Wow, is my butt sore!"
(Just kidding about that last part.)
