Border Patrol Catches Drug "Pedalers"

Thursday February 7, 2008

From the newswire. . . Last month U.S. Border Patrol agents nabbed two Mexicans smuggling bundles of marijuana as they tried to sneak into the States carrying the contraband on heavily loaded bicycles.

Agents watched the men cross a canal from Mexico into the United States in a small raft. Once on the bank, the men pulled a number of large packages out of the craft along well as two bicycles. They proceeded to load the bikes with the contraband, and set off down a darkened farm road, where they were soon arrested.

The Border Patrol found that the two men had more than 110 pounds of pot stuffed into their panniers, with a street value of $88,000. Gives new meaning to the term "dope pedaling," doesn't it?
