Ciclovia - Carfree Streets Every Sunday in Bogota, Colombia
Did you know that for seven hours every Sunday in Bogotá, Colombia, the city closes down over 70 miles of streets to cars? You'll want to check out this great video that shows how residents absolutely flock to this terrific event to to ride bikes, walk, run, skate, picnic, and mingle with family, neighbors & strangers.
Taking part in Ciclovia was "simply one of the most moving experiences I have had in my entire life," said Clarence Eckerson, Jr., producer of the video.
Check out the film by Eckerson and crew from StreetFilms in NYC showing just how cool of an event this is. In Bogota, a city of seven million people, about a million take part in Ciclovia each week. Maybe it can inspire the same where you live.

Hi, yes the Ciclovia is a wonderful thing for cyclists and non-cyclists – lots of skaters, joggers, walkers, etc etc also turn out. It’s a great scene – and it’s both Sundays and holiday Mondays. Bogotá also has the region’s largest network of bike paths, altho many could use improvement.
I’ve been cycling in Bogotá for several years now, and recently opened a bicycle tours and rentals service here.
